Tucson Troop 186 – Tanque Verde
Hello, scouts of Troop 186 of Tucson, AZ. The troop website is back underway and I will post photos from the adventures we do. Ask any question to me at webmaster@troop186.tv. Thanks.

We are pleased to announce our newest Eagle scout Cullen Drenkhahn. Cullen completed his Eagle Board in December and appears in this picture with his mother, father, and brother (all three are men are now Eagles!). With Cullen’s Eagle board completed, he can now focus on finalizing his applications for our nation’s military academies, good luck!

The Scout Hut was hoping on Saturday night as we enjoyed our annual lock-in. Our troop enjoyed a campfire, smores, pizza, games, a movie, and more.
In the morning we hustled up and made quick work of weeds, tree trimming, and taking to keep the Tanque Verde Youth Community Center looking sharp and tidy.

Seven of our scouts enjoyed a vigorous ride Sunday morning as we completed one of the first legs of the Bucky king merit badge. While the requirement was initially only 2 miles we had such fun that it turned in to nearly 5.
Our troop is a scout led troop that follows the patrol method where scouts lead other scouts under the guidance of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters. Troop 186 is fortunate to have many adults who volunteer with diverse backgrounds in engineering, technology, leadership, ethics, law enforcement, aviation, economics, bush craft, construction, hunting, and communications. Many of these adults continue on as mentors and merit badge counselors long after their own scout has moved on because of their passion for the program. We are a very active troop, and enjoy weekly meetings that focus on scout craft, and weekend activities like hiking, backpacking, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, snowboarding, climbing, orienteering, car camping, and shooting sports.
We meet nearly every Tuesday at 7:00 PM, if you’re ready for fun, we look forward to meeting you.
Had a great time at the Colossal Cave campout. Scouts participated in games that included frisbee, tug-of-war, cooking competitions, knife-throwing, and rope work.

Excellent hike to Hutch’s Pool just north of Sabino Canyon. We enjoyed the rare treat of cooling off and relaxing underneath the stars after a brisk 6 mile hike with full kit.

Conditions for the annual ski trip to Arizona Snowbowl were challenging. We were presented with icy conditions which turned to slush, ASL Chris M., explained our hazards and reviewed our safety procedures.

Despite the slush, many scouts in our troop completed their snow sports merit badges.
Great time at Empire Ranch in southeast Arizona. ASL Steve Hensel helped arrange a service project where scouts and adult leaders participated in recycling wood from old barns. As a treat we were provided sleeping accommodations and a tour of this ranch that served up as a film location for many famous westerns.
Scouts both young and old enjoyed cooking competitions, knife-throwing, and archery.

Curtis S., helping out.

EM, TH, and LJ utilizing their pioneering skills.

Did we forget to mention the hatchet throwing?
We have created a facebook group called “BSA Troop 186 Tanque Verde” for scouting adults. That’s right, this is for the adults to share according to BSA social media guidelines. If you are interested, please request membership to the group through facebook.com
